Temperatures in Uranium City dropped below -48.9C yesterday making it the coldest place in Canada (with Key Lake and Fort Chipewyan in close second and third, with -48.2 and -47.2 respectively), which was also a record for the Uranium City weather station.
Last time I was up, in February 2003, it was somewhere very close to that record and it was COLD! Stepping outside to watch the northern lights I felt like my eyeballs were about to freeze. Mind you, at that point I’d been south, and in the city, for a good long time. Undeterred, some of the locals took out their skidoos and went caribou hunting!
Check out the ‘drums’ fashioned out of frozen clothes in the video at the bottom. This is not, as far as I know, Uranium City, but good creative thinking nonetheless.
