Classic photos from the 1950s from the Saskatchewan Archives.Included here is downtown Uranium City (Main street), the Uranium City township circa the mid-’50s, the Gunnar and Lorado mines. Gunnar was shut down in 1964, Lorado in 1959.

my Mom worked there when she was 19 years old way back when. I do have some pictures in her albums, but am having a hard time figuring out what is what, as she never wrote on the back where these pictures are from. My best guess is that of Uranium City.
I’m looking for any information/records pertaining to Eddie Angus, a miner/prospector working in UC in the early 1950’s –are there any archival sources you can recommend?

I’ve heard of Eddie Angus, but I wouldn’t know anything about him or even where to get information. Have you tried the Saskatchewan Archives? (https://www.saskarchives.com/). I tried Chat GPT but nothing came up. One source worth trying, assuming you’re on Facebook, is the ‘Uranium City Friends’ Facebook group. One of the old-timers on the page might be able to help you – and may have even known Eddie Angus.

My Dad, Ed Robinson, was a pilot at MASL. My mom, Lil, was Girl Guide Commissioner. I went to UCHS until Grade 11 in 1965 when we moved to La Ronge and then to Lynn Lake. My sister is Jacquie (Robinson) Simpson. She lives now in Victoria. I live in Calgary. Would love to hear from classmates and old friends!
Hi Ardene – my apologies for the late reply! Got busy with a few things and haven’t been keeping up with the site. You moved around the time I was born and we wouldn’t move to UC until 1966 so our paths likely didn’t cross. That said, you can find a lively facebook group of ex and current residents on Facebook at ‘Friends of Uranium City’ (or it might be ‘Uranium City Friends’). I’d put up a link but facebook seems to be down as I’m writing this but I’ll post the link when it’s back up.

Hello Ardene. I have been putting a few yearbooks on YOUTUBE lately. Jacquie may be interested in the 1967 yearbook. tell her I said hello. We moved out of Eldorado in 1965 (same year that you moved) The UC Facebook site is a great way to re connect with people we grew up with.
My Uncle, Bill Shurniak, worked for Imperial Bank of Canada in Uranium City and Gunnar Mines between late 1956 and early 1959. He had been writing a book on his life when he passed away in 2020. Our family is now trying to finish the book and print copies for family and friends. One thing we are missing are pictures when he was in Northern Saskatchewan. Would it be possible for us to use the air photo of the town above in the book (referenced appropriately)? If anyone happens to remember Bill and have a photo of him at that time that would be even better! He apparently coached a softball team one year.
